Before you begin, make sure that you have done the Tutorial "
Pixel Art Tools In PhotoImpact " and knows all the setting, cause
they are always the same and save them in your Easy Palette for a fast
access. Remember, no soft edge, none whatsoever. Ok, Let's begin, open a canvas 70 pixels x 70 pixels. Once that is done zoom in at 800 %, this is the size I mostly work on. Choose your paint brush, shape square (always); size 1 (always); transparency 0; soft edge 0. Line choose straight line. And don't forget to click on mode, we always and always paint on mode. Now at about the middle and near the top, paint about 56 pixels line, going down either side, up to you, This will be the high of your triangle. Paint a 3 pixels line at the bottom of your line centered. Then from there move 1 pixel up and paint 2 pixels, the wider you make your line the wider is going to be your 3d triangle, here I did made 17 pixels x 2 pixels altogether and on the last one make 1 pixel on top just like in the example on the left. |

Ok, now that we have one side done, let's click out of mode,
duplicate it, using the transform tool, reverse horizontally and
position. Cool now we have our other bottom side.
It is time to save if you haven't. |
![]() |
Starting from the bottom on one side, we are going to make a diagonal
line 1 pixel x1 pixel until we reach the top of our middle line that is
the high of our triangle, Depending how long you did your middle line
you may want to add a few pixels to it or erase a few pixels. Ok now that we have our line, let's duplicate it. |
![]() |
Flip horizontally and position. Great now our triangle outline is
done. Save again. |
![]() |
Now the fun begin, we are going to color it. Choose your color, we need a light shade, a medium shade and of course a dark shade of the same color. Let's select the left side of our triangle, and fill in with the medium shade of our color. Once done convert your selection to an object, so it does have now it's own layer. |
![]() |
We are going to do the same for the right side of the triangle, select, fill in with the dark shade this time and convert as an object. |
![]() |
Select the middle line, fill in with the light shade color. Cool, we now have a 3D triangle, looks like a pyramid. Awesome. Save it to your easy palette as multiple object for further use, we sure are going to need it in future project. And save your triangle as a transparent gif format. |
![]() |
Here is an other example, for a less wider one, I did make 2 pixels up move 1 pixel and so on. You will have to adjust depending of the type of triangle you want to make. |
![]() |
Now, we are going to make an other type of triangle but with a view from
the top. Open a canvas 70 x 70 pixels. Look at the example on the left and do the same. Click out of mode. |
![]() |
Click again on mode, so this way we have a new layer, make 17 pixels x 2
pixels, just like the example on the left. Click out of mode. Super, you could save what you have so far. |
![]() |
Ok, click on mode again, and make 15 pixels x 1 pixel going up toward
the right, just like in the example on the left. Good, click out of mode and save. |
![]() |
Let's duplicate the line you've just made, and position on the right
side, look at the example on the left. Save again |
![]() |
Click on mode again, for the example I did use a grey color, but you
keep the black color to draw. We are going to connect the lines on the
right, make two pixels up, then a straight line going to the right until
you meet the last two pixels of the line on the right. Click out of mode
and save.
|
![]() |
Let's duplicate that line. Erase the bottom pixel and click on mode add
two pixels to the line, click out of mode your two pixels is select,
select the line with it, and merge as single object. Position the
line at the other end on the left side just like in the example. Splendid, it is time to save again. |
Ok, now we are going
to make a line in the middle. Click on mode and make 18 pixels x 2
pixels just like in the example. Click out of mode and save. |
|
Let's duplicate and
position at the end of the line toward the top. Just like in the
example on the left.Click out of mode and save. Well what do you know, we are done with our outline. |
|
Ok, let's have some
fun. Again we are going to need a color with 3 shade, light, medium and
dark.Select the side on the left, fill with the medium color and convert as an object. Save again. |
|
![]() Select the side view on the right, don't forget the one pixel alone by the corner.
|
|
Fill in with the dark
color and convert as an object.Save again. |
|
![]() |
Next, select the top side, fill in with the light color and convert as
an object. Save again. |
![]() |
If you did like me and use a grey line, select those two line and fill it with black. If not continue to the next step. |
![]() |
Select your middle lines and fill in with a lighter shade than your
light shade, this one is for the direct light reflection. Awesome! Now select all your object and save in your easy palette, we are going to need it in future project. Save as a transparent gif format. Well, have you notice it look like a roof. Amazing isn't it. |
![]() |
Well, I did told you, to save your block in our previous project, now it
is time to bring it out. You may want to expend your canvas as you need
and as we go. Now, if you have made the same block size and the same triangle, it sure could fit the top, if not, you may have to erase at some place or add a few pixels. We are going to put a roof on that block. After you are done, save. |
![]() |
Let's expand our canvas and we may as well put our roof in use. Let's position just like the example on the left. Save your work. |
![]() |
Make a straight line, just one pixel lower than the block. |
![]() |
Duplicate and position to the front under the roof, just like in the example. |
![]() |
Duplicate again, and position at the other end just like in the example on the left. |
![]() |
Now we are going to connect those lines. Let's start at the front. Click on mode, start with 1 pixel, then make 2 pixels move 1 pixel, draw 2 pixels and so on till you meet the side line at the bottom. Click out of mode and save. |
![]() |
Here we select the top line near to the dark color and duplicate,
position at the bottom. Super, now time to save again. |
![]() |
Cool, my favorite part, we are going to put our color in. To be able to select on white and only have one layer, we are going to hide the dark side of the block and the bottom line of it. |
![]() |
Now we are going to select the front side bottom, fill in with the same
color as the front block and convert as an object. Save again. |
![]() |
Unhide your parts. Let' s select the side part on the right, fill in
with the same color as the same side of the block and convert as an
object. Save again. Cool, we now have a pretty house structure. Select all object and save in your easy palette, We will need it in our next project. |

and windows. Save in your EP and save your work as a transparent gif
format. If you want some help or critic, please use the critics Icon and post as well a screen shot of a zoom, so I could see better your work and help you out.
