Before you begin, make sure that you have done the Tutorial "
Pixel Art Tools In PhotoImpact " and knows all the setting, cause
they are always the same and save them in your Easy Palette for a fast
access. Remember, no soft edge, none whatsoever.
If you don't have any free; line art, graphic outline or color book page, you could right click on the image on the left and save as on your hard drive. |

Open your image in PhotoImpact. Resize it down at the size you would
love to have it. I did resize mine down two time 50% to get the
size on the left example here. If you have a gif image format, don't forget to change the data to RGB color. |

Once that is done, zoom in to 800%. Then go to Hue and Saturation, under Format. Move the Lightness bar up until it fade the drawing but good enough for you to see properly. Mine was about 50%. Expand your canvas 5 pixels around, this will help you to work better on the edge of the graphic. |

With the paint brush for pixels setting, I paint in mode following the
outlines but keeping in mind, the pixels outline rules. Sometime you have no choice to break the rules, if not sure once in a while zoom out check to see if it does look right, if not make the proper change to it by erasing what need to be or paint where it needs pixels. On the left here is how I did the hat part. |

You could see very well here, where I did break the rules. My image is
so small that I cannot follow the rules exactly here. This is how I did the face part on the left. |

Again, couldn't follow the rules, if my image were bigger, I would have
been able to follow the rules. But it is ok, and still look nice when I view it at actual size. This is how I did the body part on the left. Once you are done, select all objects and merge as single object. Deselect it. Click on your fill bucket, and fill your background with white color. |

Great!! Pixel outline all done. He look kind of cute isn't he. Hope you do save work often. |

I'm going to show you, how I did paint mine. We always do love fast and easy way, don't know for you but I sure do. Zoom in at 800% more or less if you prefer. Select the white part of the hat area with the magic wand. Fill in with the color of your choice. Convert your selection to an object. |
![]() |
Keeping the object active, I click on the paint brush tool, click on
edit mode. Change my color to a medium tone shade of the same color I
use for the hat. Then changing color again for the light reflection on my hat, I paint it with a lighter tone shade of the same color used. Once your done click out of edit mode and deselect your object. This is how mine look on the left, your could very well be different, depends what kind of shading you prefer and where you put your light resources. |
![]() |
Here I did repeat the same process as for the hat, but in different
color. As for the nose, well so small that I didn't bother to add light reflection and shadow here. this is how mine look on the left. |

Cool only the body left to do. Since the body is so small, I didn't use the magic wand to select the white part. I did choose the paint brush and did paint in mode. Using just one color for the so call hands, and three color for the shirt and pant. Just one color for the shoes. This is how mine look on the left. |

Ok, once you are done, select all object, merge as single object.
Copy and paste as a new image. Hide the background and save as a transparent gif format. |
