| Tutorial: Pixel Art
Paint Dingbat Font Object PhotoImpact v.8 Could be done in earlier or higher Version. Easy to intermediate Tools: Paint Brush Description: Learn how to paint object from Dingbat Font in Pixel Art Download needed: A Doll Base, if you don't have any, you could get one in the Pixel doll hair tut and some Dingbat Font, if you don't have any, you could get some free one at House Of Lime and click on the Ding in the menu to see the list. I did use the Tools one. Extra needed: lots of patient. |
This could be apply to any path text or path shape. First let open the doll base you want to use, expend your canvas about 30 pixels on all side to give you some space to add what ever you want. Here I did use the Dingbat (Ding Font) from House Of Lime the Tools one and use the Cap letter P to get the wheel barrel here. Once you have select you font and you are ready to type in, before you do, very important that in your text panel under options you uncheck the Anti-aliasing, we don't want any softness to our text. |
Choose a light neutral tone color for your text. Type
in the Capital letter P. Now with the transform tool, position and
make the perspective fit to your doll base.
Convert your text to an image. Save your work as ufo. |
Unselect your object. With the paint brush and the
setting below. We are going to paint in mode. Shape; Square |
As you could see here on the left, I try to avoid
having double black line pixels and corner pixels unless I need a
corner. Here on the left a close up look at 800 pixels, this is what I do work at, I zoom in at 800 pixels, you may want to work bigger or smaller depending on what you are more comfortable with. |
Here on the left, the wheel, since I'm making a black tire may as well paint it with my out line. |
The top left of one handle, as you could see their is a
pixels I did left out and didn't paint. Trying to keep a nice angle for
the handle. Click out of mode and save your work as ufo |
First image on the left are my outline in black, the
second image have the shadow painted. This is what we are going to paint next the shadow, I did choose to paint a nice red one. First let's select your paint brush again and click on mode, I did painted with a dark red color in mode where the shadow could be as you could see on the left here. |
Oups!! Here realise I was using the wrong, so nothing to it, very easy
and fast to correct this. The medium I had, when for the inside of the wheel barrel here. A fast way to do this is select with your magic wand, with the following setting: Area; selected Select the part you want to color and fill in and convert as an object or use your paint brush to paint inside the selection area. The fill in bucket works faster and easier. |
Now I select again the other place I want to change
color, now with a more light and brighter red I feel in the rest of my
wheel barrel except for the handle and the tire. Don't forget to save your work from time to time. |
The shadow on handle are a dark brown and a much lighter
tone for the highlight on it. Same goes for the tire here, I have in the center of the tire a very dark grey and a medium grey for the side. For the tire itself did choose a much lighter grey for the highlight on it, since it stand in direct light source. Once you are done with each color save in between each time the layer of your work. |
Ok, Great all painted, now open your layer manager,
select the first image you did use as a guide line and delete it. Select
all the layer you did paint for your object and merge as single object. Now copy and paste as a new image, hide the background save as a gift file, making sure the soft edge have none in your option when saving. Now you are ready to use it. |
Ok, here is what I did with it. Well what else a little
doll would do with it than driving around his little friendly pets. He
sure seams to have some fun, hope you did too.
