OK, Since we are in a hurry and need some fruits or veggies real fast,
we are going to use some texture to give a 3D look, by using PI texture
filter Material Effect and choosing Texture Filter. But first since we are going to make, Orange, Tangerine or Mandarine depending of what shade of orange you will choose, they are all in same family and look alike. Now let use the path shape and make yourself a circle with an orange color but choose the darkest color you would thing the shadow of your orange would be. Keep it select and follow me below the next image here. |
Good, now this is the panel window for the Texture Filter for painting we want our texture to had dimension a 3d look, so we are going to use the second one that is call embossed. OK first click on the little down arrow and click on add texture, now browse to your PI folder, Material folder, to help you choose set to see the thumbnail for the Orange here we choose texture026, now we need to adjust the setting like in the example here, don't forget to click on the still so we don't make an animation here. Once that is done click ok. |
Here we are, time to save as a ufo file. Let choose the dodge tool with the setting on the left and making sure your orange is select click on the edit mode and start to dodge to make some light reflection on your orange as in the example on the left. |
Here I used the blur tool, just a little, this will help for the colors mixtures for our blending. |
This is optional read up:
The smudge tool now, yep we are going to blend all of that, you may skip this part for the orange but it is very useful for other kind of fruits. Blend from the center to outward one stroke at the time, once you are satisfied save. |
Let go back to the texture filter and apply the same again, the setting should have not change in there if you haven't played with the setting, just click ok. |
Follow here if you have skip the optional part: Don't forget to always keep your orange select and every time you use the retouch tool you have your edit mode on. The blur tool, we are just going to blur over gently at some places specially to get rid of those two strait line from the texture we did apply, and to try to make a more realistic orange skin since it doesn't have all that deep bumps on it. Time to save. |
The dodge tool again, to make the light reflection, don't over do, you have to keep a nice orange reflection not yellow. Save again. Take the Smudge tool again, it should still have the same setting, smudge little places on the orange so get rid of the strait line bump just about as in example . |
Now, we need to make the bottom side of the orange, Choose
the Brush tool, the paint brush and use the setting at left with the color
pick on screen select the darkest orange color you have on your Orange. Now paint a 5 star as in the example. |
With the Warp tool push the color toward the middle of that star. |
Also with the Warp tool break those bump line on the skin of the orange. |
Now go back to the texture filter and apply the same texture but this time lower the level at about 20, you could also play with the transparency if you want it is up to you. |
Well That's it for the orange, well this one is more like a Tangerine with that color shade. |
This one is more like the orange but did skip the optional part of the tut. |
See on the turnip on the left, the full tut apply with the option part on the leaf and the turnip separately with different texture and different way of doing the stroke. The turnip shape was paint. |
Lollllll yes this is a peanut, looks more like it when resize down, I did over burn the bottom a bit should had been a bit less. On this one to make the final touch I did use the paint brush fine point preset and choose the lightest color of the peanut to paint that hairy fibber it has on it. The peanut shape is in the custom shape |
Oh I almost forgot, my apple, as you could see to make a
fast one took the apple shape erase the leaf from it.
All the texture I did use is in PhotoImpact in your Material folder, Experiment with them, choose a texture that is almost similar to what you need for your skin the retouch tool will help you to shape the texture of your fruits and veggies. This is just a basic idea to help you experiment further with the texture. Until next time, we will paint our own texture without using texture, meanwhile I'll let you have fun with this. So don't forget to make all kinds of them and since they are object save them in your easy palette for future use, they may be handy to have around. You are invited to show them in the painting forum, we sure would love to see them. Hope you have learn something new with this Tut. |
