This kind of painting would be to long for me to write a tut about it as I'm learning and experimenting myself with the tools in PI. But I'm willing to share my discovery with you so you could experiment and try to get more technique of painting, that is if you like my style of painting.

#1. On this canvas the sky part was white and I did painted the bottom part a dark brown that was almost black and where the cliff also.

#2. As you paint the sky, paint the reflection on the dark part of the water with a medium transparency. I did use the smudge tool with a line shape horizontal to blend down my reflection just a bit at a very low level. Then use the Drop water brush going from the center of my reflection where it is lighter and going one stroke side way on each side.

As you all know, your horizon is about a strait line but the waves of the ocean  when it reach near the land as about around a 30° angle, don't ask me why.. I don't know lollll.  So to have it more realistic we need to make our waves that going that way.

#3. About the large waves here to achieve, sketch a few line for the top shape of your wave where you wanted to be, then you could paint the waves of the middle ground. I did use a greenish yellow to make the eye of the large wave with circular stroke and then blend it lightly down. Pay a close attention to the angle of your waves here it will tell you the direction of the water.

At this point I have painted my mountain far away and the rocky cliff. Then I have high light the big waves and I did use the charcoal brush with a gritty preset just the same one I often use for making the snow, play with the setting here to suit what you like most. I did play with different setting and transparency in the panel brush to get a foamy look also with different shade of purple blue, blue light blue and white. Make small swirl stroke.

To make the foamy water action going on the beach and the tide going back I have set up my brush shape of the water waves around 10 x 1 to be horizontal and work my stroke the same angle of the waves. Just like if you were painting with a knife in real life painting. As you can see in the close up here, I have increase the transparency to have the sand color to show.

Final touch, add more highlight where needed and under the foam line on the beach paint under it very close a dark brown almost black a thin hair line, you may want to zoom in on your painting to achieve this.

In my painting I have add a ship far away and a native and a tree on the cliff and an eagle in the sky. Add anything you would like to your painting.

I have just written as an example of what the high light touch of a brush could do to your painting as I did with some of my previous flowers to show you it very well can be apply to any painting you fancy about.

Hope this is helpful to understand better one more aspect of painting with PI.
