This is the image we are going to use for this tutorial or you may want to use your own, they are in the zip file just unzip and open it in PI. Don't forget to download the Xero filter, we will need: set # one, set # 2 and set # 4. Since they are free you may as well download set # 3.

For Installing Plugins and Filters in PhotoImpact, Debbie Hardisty has a great tutorial for it.

Ok now we are ready to start, you have your gif image ready and open on your Canvas, Since it is a .gif we need to go under Format choose data type and click on RGB True Color, so this way we will be able to work with our .gif image.

Now that this is done, and that we have our image select, lets go under effect, Materiel effect and Emboss or go under effect, all and click on Emboss, which ever is easier for ya.

From that window click on options, it will bring you to this window here on the left. click on the square Coating color and change it to white and make all the setting just like in the example above, and click ok.

The figure is what it should look like.

Save as .ufo as you go, cause you wouldn't want to lose all your work if something happen.

Keeping your image select, lets go under effect again, and lets find Xero, then find the mistifier and click on it. Just set with the same setting as the one above and click ok to get the result like in the figure on the left too.

Time to save again.

OK, we still have our image select, lets go again under effect, Xero and this time Moodlight and set it like the example above and click ok. Save again.

Keeping our image select, lets go again under effect, Xero and click on Porcelain. Set it the same as in the example on the left and click ok.

Your figure should look like the one on the left.

Time to save again.

Ok, lets get ourselves a cup of coffee before we decide what color we want our Cameo.

OK, I'm back, did crab a cookie on the way...lolll

Now, Lets go under format and choose Color Balance, click on it. And you'll get this fun window just like the one on the left. Let change are Tone balance to Shadow. Click 4 times on the lower left corner, I decide to go with a teal blue color, you may at this stage choose the color you would like your Cameo to be. We do have to keep our tone balance to shadow cause other wise we would have to much dodge to do later on.

Lets open a new canvas about 400 X400 pixel, and draw  an oval shape or ellipse (as Ulead call it) 3D Round, Border 17, Depth 30. In the path panel you see where it said click button click on it to change your light cause you will want the light on the oval shape to match the light source on your figure.

Once that is done, let bring your figure lady on top of your oval and resize her to make her fit in nicely. Just about like the one on the left.

Great it is starting to look a Cameo a bit, we're almost there, hang on.

Time to save.

Now, have your oval shape select, and zoom in at 200, now right click on the color box to use the color pick on screen and color pick the darkest shade of your color in the figure lady, just like in the example above left.  Ok now you got the right color base shade for your Cameo. Time to save.

  real one

OK the last step, let choose the Dodge tool under the retouch tool, zoom in again at 200, it will be easier to dodge between those tiny line. Here is the Dodge setting: Shape=Round, Size=2, Level=82, Soft edge=50, and no preset. Ok now the dodge tool will make some place whiter and this is what we want, to make it seam like if it was not much carves at some places. Have a look at a real one see where it is more bright. Try to highlight your figure about the same way at some places.

Once this is done, zoom out, select all and merge as single object, now you could save it in your easy palette until you are ready to make a pendant or a brooch with it or what ever you fancy about.

This tutorial could be explore further, to experience more and to try to make it more realistic, this is what I did came up so far with.

Here's a nice brooch, hope you had some fun and did enjoy it.
